UMKC is adopting a university-wide tobacco-free and smoke-free policy on Aug. 1. Tobacco use and smoking products will not be permitted on university grounds, in university-owned buildings or in university-owned vehicles.
For more information about the upcoming policy, visit the Smoke-Free UMKC website.
The upcoming policy change is the result of a student-led initiative that found that a significant majority of students and staff supported a smoke-free policy on campus. In addition, the university is committed to providing a safe and healthy physical environment for its students, staff, faculty, patients and the general public associated with UMKC.
The smoke-free policy will apply to:
- All outdoor common and educational areas; inside all university owned or leased buildings
- Campus sidewalks
- Campus parking lots
- Recreational areas
- Outdoor stadiums
- University-owned and leased vehicles (regardless of location)
